St. Mel's Cathedral

St. Mel’s Cathedral was founded in 1840. On Christmas Day 2009, it suffered from a catastrophic accidental fire. A five-year restoration campaign was then set in motion, which saw the cathedral reopen in time for Christmas 2014. The cathedral has been tastefully restored to its original beauty while being remodelled as a living church for a new century. Some of the highlights include the wonderful limestone columns, intricate plasterwork, pipe organ, and liturgical art from a number of contemporary Irish and international artists.
