See what Ireland has in store for you
Loop Head Lighthouse is a majestic Signature Discovery Point along Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way, located on a dramatic cliff girt headland in County Clare, separating the Shannon Estuary from the roaring Atlantic Ocean 90m below. The first tower lighthouse was built in 1802 and underwent many transformations before being automated in 1991. The lighthouse is now operated by the Commissioners of Irish Lights, and it plays a vital role in maritime safety. As part of the Great Lighthouses Of Ireland initiative, visitors are invited to learn about its history. Take a tour to enjoy the exhibits in the Lightkeeper’s Cottage and explore the Crow’s Nest. Then, travel up the tower for spectacular ocean views. Over the years, the area has attracted everyone from birders and dolphin watchers to historians and Star Wars film crews.
