See what Ireland has in store for you
The Hole in the Wall, Kilkenny's renowned 18th Century tavern is housed in the oldest surviving townhouse in Ireland, the 1582 Archer Inner House. Fully restored over the past 10 years, the Elizabethan building with its tavern, snug and archer room are now open to visitors for the first time in hundreds of years. Tours can be arranged at weekends and most evenings where the story of the house is described against the backdrop of the complex political history and religious changes that have occurred in Kilkenny over the past 400 years. The house is wonderful to explore with its surviving 16th Century features. The tavern, now a small and intimate wine bar, recalls part of the buildings illustrious past and evokes the time when the Duke of Wellington and other notables were nightly habitués and the Charitable and Benevolent snug tells of links to 1916 and other notable events. The Elizabethan Room hosts many events year round, ranging from concerts, poetry readings, lectures, debates and theatre. If you are looking for somewhere to hold a conference, re-union, reception or meeting (or even a wedding), the Inner House of the Archer Mansion and Hole in the Wall is the place. It is availabe also for classical and traditional music, small acoustic concerts as well as debates, theatre, poetry etc. The natural acoustics are excellent and there is an in-built state of the art sound system. Check the website for more information on events happening throughout the year.
