See what Ireland has in store for you
The commemorative plaques memorialise important names and related information about the city. You’ll be introduced to the lives of the famous people featured, many of whom you’ll undoubtedly recognise. Your tour guide will outline their stories and their connections with the city. Many exerted an influence not just on history here in Northern Ireland, but throughout the world too. Over the course of a few hours you'll head back hundreds of years, on a journey through the lives of notable local characters. You'll learn how these giants from the world of art, music, literature and philosophy shaped the city. The famed philosopher, Bishop Berkeley, for instance; intrepid aviator, Amelia Earhart; Francis Ledwidge, war poet; Kathleen Coyle, acclaimed novelist; Mabel Colhoun, pioneering female archaeologist and George Farquhar, playwright, to name but a few! Along the walk, between the plaques, you’ll also learn of the most iconic sights and historical aspects of the city, also previously known as Doire and Derrie in its history, from 542AD all the way to the present day. You’ll encounter beautiful street sculptures and art and there’s time to enjoy a hot or cold beverage at the refreshment stop, as well as some of the food the city has to offer on the lunch break. Your expert guide keeps things informal but informed. They know this city’s history inside and out, and they’ll take the time to impart their knowledge, answer questions and offer advice en route. Whether you're travelling alone or with a group, this is a great experience for those wanting to learn about the important people and places in Derry~Londonderry. Book now >>
