See what Ireland has in store for you
Discover the Ritual Landscapes of West Tyrone Explore ancient ritual sites and wetland habitats with a Landscape Guide, Paleao ecologist and enthralling Story Teller. On this experience you will, for example learn how our ancestors used rituals to keep their livestock safe and healthy? Or discover how the Celts made the most of their leaders. Join Martin from Foyle Trails on a fascinating and humorous exploration of places that were sacred in Bronze and Iron Age Ireland. Places that range from Giant`s Graves and Stone Rows, to Quaking Bogs and other places of powerful magic, in a mysterious part of Northern Ireland. You will visit monuments and habitats that have had the power to bestow wisdom and poetic inspiration for millennia. Be inspired by West Tyrone`s ancient sites and wonder at their use and how they survived to the present day. At these places your imagination will be fired up when you learn how, at certain times of the Celtic year, the division between the human world and the spirit world disappears. You will be inspired and captivated by the most mysterious and intriguing of these places – Bogs -unique habitats where human remains and votive offerings have laid undiscovered for thousands of years. Martin`s stories will help you visualise how bogs are a perfect medium for the preservation of bodies. But be aware the placement of these bodies did not always happen by accident. The way in which many of these unfortunates met their death was far from accidental. Hearing Martin relate stories - of ritual sacrifice, preservation, and the science behind their modern interpretation, may make you shiver, even on the hottest of summer days. Bog body discoveries provided Seamus Heaney with the inspiration for some of his most famous and evocative poems. In many ways Martin`s Ritual Landscape experiences will also exert a powerful influence on your senses and imagination.
